Best passive skills in Palworld, and which ones you can actually breed for

Every Pal is born with up to four passive skills, and they swing attack, work speed and movement more than most players expect. Palworld has 115 of them. Two things decide whether a passive is worth chasing: its internal rank, and whether breeding can pass it down.
Ranks and inheritance
A Pal carries a maximum of four passives. Stronger ones sit at a higher internal rank, and the bad ones carry negative value and drag the Pal down.
The part that shapes your whole plan is inheritance. Some passives pass from parent to child, others do not. You can only breed toward the ones that do, so the strongest passive in the game is not automatically the one to aim for.
World Tree passives
Palworld 1.0 added the World Tree area and, with it, a tier of passives above everything else. They all carry a drawback, they all share the effect of not making World Tree trees and rocks vanish when you approach, and none of them can be inherited.
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Twin-Edged Holy Blade | Attack +50%, Defence -30% |
| God of Destruction | Attack +40%, Defence +20%, Max HP -50% |
| Sanctified Meat Shield | Defence +50%, Attack -30% |
| Demon’s Hand | Work speed +90%, sanity drops faster |
| Dimensional Leap | Movement speed +50%, hunger drops faster |
| Hermit Sage | Sanity drops 50% slower, work speed -20% |
| World Tree Seedbed | Hunger drops 50% slower, HP -20% |
Since you cannot breed toward these, they go on a Pal you have already finished. Twin-Edged Holy Blade or God of Destruction for a damage dealer, Sanctified Meat Shield for a wall, Demon’s Hand for a base worker. Each one costs you something, so pick by the job the Pal does.
Passives worth breeding for
These are the inheritable ones that justify the grind. Because they pass down, two parents carrying the same passive can produce a line of children that keep it.
| Passive | Effect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Demon God | Attack +30%, Defence +5% | Combat (offence) |
| Diamond Body | Defence +30%, no flinch, no knockback | Combat (defence) |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | Work speed +75% | Base work |
| Swift | Movement speed +30% | Mounts |
| King of the Waves | Movement speed on water +50% | Mounts (water) |
| Vampiric | Heals 5% of damage dealt, works at night | Combat and base |
| Lavish Hospitality | Drops +100% | Farming materials |
Demon God and Diamond Body carry a combat Pal. Remarkable Craftsmanship carries a base worker. Start from whichever of those matches the Pal in front of you.
Four-slot loadouts
Decide the four slots before you start breeding. Every passive below is inheritable, so each set is a target you can reach. Work out the parent pairs in the breeding calculator.
Combat
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Demon God | Attack +30%, Defence +5% |
| Serenity | Skill cooldown -30%, Attack +10% |
| Diamond Body | Defence +30%, no flinch, no knockback |
| Vanguard | Player attack +10% |
Demon God and Diamond Body alone will carry you through most fights. The other two slots are taste: Serenity makes the rotation smoother, Vanguard adds to your own damage instead.
Base work
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | Work speed +75% |
| Artisan | Work speed +50% |
| Insomnia | Keeps working through the night |
| Lavish Hospitality | Own drops +100% |
Stacking both work-speed passives looks greedy, and it is, but a production base rewards exactly that. Swap Lavish Hospitality in if the Pal is there to farm materials rather than craft.
Mount
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Swift | Movement speed +30% |
| Runner | Movement speed +20% |
| Nimble | Movement speed +10% |
| King of the Waves | Movement speed on water +50% |
Four slots of movement and nothing else. This Pal cannot fight, so treat it as transport. Keep King of the Waves if your route crosses water.
Summary
Rank tells you how strong a passive is; inheritance tells you whether you can breed for it. The World Tree passives win on raw numbers and lose on flexibility, so they go on a finished Pal. For everything you build yourself, Demon God, Diamond Body and Remarkable Craftsmanship are the three worth chasing. Pick the four slots first, then breed toward them.
The World Tree passives come from the same area as the Echoing Flute, so both sit behind the same endgame gate.
FAQ
- What is the strongest passive in Palworld?
- The World Tree passives added in 1.0, such as Twin-Edged Holy Blade and God of Destruction. They are rank 5, but none of them can be inherited through breeding, so you put them on a finished Pal rather than breeding toward them.
- Which passives should I breed for?
- Among inheritable passives, Demon God for attack, Diamond Body for defence, Remarkable Craftsmanship for base work and Swift for movement are the standouts. All four are rank 4 and pass down to offspring.
- How does passive inheritance work?
- Breed two parents that already carry the passive you want, and it can pass to the child. Only passives flagged as inheritable can be chained this way, which is why the World Tree passives sit outside the breeding loop.
- How many passives can one Pal have?
- Four. That is why it pays to decide the role first and pick a four-slot set, instead of collecting strong passives one at a time.
