The Echoing Flute does one thing: it gets you into the Panthalus fight. You can collect the four Echobones it is made from in an afternoon. The Lv70 boss waiting on the other side takes rather longer.

What the flute unlocks

A shrine sits offshore, south of the mainland, at roughly -174, 34. Examine it with the flute in your bag and the boss fight against Panthalus begins. Without the flute, nothing happens.

Panthalus is a Lv70 Water Pal, and beating and capturing it opens the road to the World Tree, the final area. The flute is the key to the endgame.

The reward for capturing it is worth the trouble. In our Paldex data, Panthalus has a base HP of 180 and Defense of 200, both the highest of any Pal in the game. Its partner skill lets you ride it through the air, and assigned to a base it shells intruders from above (Palworld Lab). Full stats are on the Panthalus page.

The four steps

The flute comes out of the Panthalus mission, which runs in four stages.

  1. Take the mission at the shrine near -174, 34
  2. Collect four Echobones from whale skeletons on the mainland
  3. Receive the Faded Schematic once all four are in your bag, then craft the flute at a workbench
  4. Examine the shrine while carrying the flute to start the fight

The mission itself rewards experience and Applied Watering Studies I (Gamepedia quest data). Palworld Lab reports that the entry condition is holding the flute, nothing else, so you can craft it and fight Panthalus without working through the mission steps.

Echobone coordinates

You need one each of Marine, Silent, Seafoam and Tidewind Echobone (Gamepedia quest data). Each comes from examining a giant whale skeleton on the mainland. These four coordinates are the ones where Palworld Lab and redfreshet agree.

Coordinates Note
124, -524
355, -110
-516, -549 On the ground under the skull. Not visible from outside
-262, 485 Northern area

Only the one at -516, -549 gives people trouble. It sits under the skull bone, so circling the outside of the skeleton will never show it. If you have three and the fourth refuses to appear, walk inside the skull.

All four Echobone descriptions say you can hear a faint sound if you listen, and each bone carries a different one: waves, silence, seafoam, sea wind. Pocketpair wrote four flavour texts for what amounts to a fetch item.

Preparing for Panthalus

Panthalus is Water, so Electric hits it for double damage. In the boss fight its HP is reported at over 350,000 (Palworld Lab), which means a long fight rather than a burst. Bring several Electric Pals.

Palworld Lab recommends riding a flying mount and attacking as the player rather than trading hits on the ground. When you have worn it down to 1 HP, a capture prompt appears (GameWith), so throw a sphere instead of finishing it off.

Summary

Four Echobones at the coordinates above, craft the flute at a workbench, then back to the shrine at -174, 34. Electric Pals for the fight, and a sphere ready at 1 HP. After the kill, the teleport ring takes you to the World Tree.
