Palworld stat points: why Weight comes before Attack

Palworld stat points: why Weight comes before Attack

When you cannot decide, put the point into Weight. It is close to a safe default early on. Once fights start knocking you down, switch to HP. Attack only earns points if you keep firing your own gun instead of letting Pals carry the fight. Get a level wrong and you can reset from level 43 onward, so none of this locks you in.

This guide covers player stats only. For Pal-side power gains, see our mutation guide.

The five stats you can raise, and what each point buys

Every level gives you one point to spend across five stats. Game8, Kamigame, and Gamepedia all report the same per-point values, so we carry those numbers over.

Stat Per point What it affects
Weight +50 Your carry capacity. Go over it and your walk speed drops
HP +100 Your maximum health
Stamina +10 How long you can sprint, climb, or dodge
Attack +2 Damage from your own weapon
Work Speed +50 How fast you work a crafting station yourself

Defense sits outside this table on purpose. Both Kamigame and Gamepedia confirm your character Defense never takes stat points and only rises through armor. There was never a decision to make here.

v1.0 raised the level cap from 65 to 80, per the official patch notes, so you now have far more total points than the Early Access cap allowed. Some guide pages still carry EA-era max values for individual stats, so check the in-game display for current caps rather than trusting an old screenshot.

Guide sites agree on the order: Weight first, then HP and Stamina, with Attack and Work Speed trailing behind. Split that by playstyle and you get this.

Range Balanced Combat (you shoot too) Building / exploration
Early, Lv1-20 All Weight Weight 7 : HP 3 All Weight
Mid, Lv20-45 Weight 5 : HP 3 : Stamina 2 HP 5 : Weight 3 : Attack 2 Weight 5 : Stamina 3 : HP 2
Late, Lv45-80 HP 5 : Stamina 3 : Weight 2 Attack 5 : HP 4 : Stamina 1 Stamina 4 : HP 4 : Weight 2

Work Speed does not appear in this table at all. All three sources call it skippable. Your base runs on Pal labor in this game, so the default value gives you no trouble. Skip it without a second thought.

Early game (Lv1-20)

Inventory weight burns more of your time than anything else early on. Stone, wood, and ore fill your bag fast, and once you’re over the limit you shuffle back to base at a crawl. Game8 also names Weight the top early priority. Pour points into it until pack Pals and a built-out base start hauling for you. Once your crafting queue outgrows what you can carry alone, our material priority guide covers which resources to stockpile first.

Mid game (Lv20-45)

Tower bosses, the volcano region, and the desert start hurting once you reach this range. Kamigame calls out rising incoming damage from mid game onward and recommends leaning into HP and Weight. Base networks and Pals start taking carrying duties off your hands, so once hauling stops being a problem, stop feeding Weight and move points into HP.

Late game (Lv45-80)

Here the guides split. GameWith puts Attack first from level 50 onward. Game8 holds the opposite view, arguing that your Pals deal most of the damage anyway, so weapon quality outweighs Attack stat points. Attack’s +2 per point is a small return, and if your Pals do the fighting, Game8’s read matches ours. Stack HP and round it out with Stamina for mobility, and let your strongest Pals by stats carry the damage instead. Attack only earns points if you’re the one emptying a rocket launcher or assault rifle clip yourself.

How to reset your points (Memory Reset Medicine)

One item does the job: Memory Reset Medicine. Craft it at the Electric Pharmacy, unlocked at player level 43, and drinking it returns every point you have spent.

Materials run 99 Pure Quartz, 50 Horn, 50 Bone, and 50 Pal Fluids, per matching figures from GameWith and Kamigame. No source mentions a limit on how many times you can reset, so as long as you can afford the materials, you can rebuild your whole build again. The Pure Quartz is the part that stings.

Two things to plan around. The Electric Pharmacy needs power, so you need both a generator and a Pal that can run it. And the unlock sits at level 43, meaning an early misallocation follows you for close to 40 levels. That gap is a big reason to default to Weight when you’re unsure.

Summary

Weight first, HP for survival, Attack only if you’re pulling the trigger yourself. Team composition matters more for how the game feels than stat allocation does, so pick from our strongest Pals by stats and check the Paldex for individual Pal numbers.

FAQ

Is it worth putting points into Attack in Palworld?
Most guides rank it last if your Pals do the fighting. Each point only adds +2 Attack, and a weapon upgrade does more for your damage. GameWith argues for prioritizing Attack late game if you keep firing your own weapon.
Can you reset your stats as many times as you want?
Yes, every time you craft a Memory Reset Medicine. No source mentions a use limit, but 99 Pure Quartz per batch keeps you from resetting on a whim.
Why can you not put points into Defense?
It is not an option. Leveling up only lets you allocate HP, Stamina, Attack, Work Speed, and Weight. Your character Defense rises only through armor.
Where do you craft Memory Reset Medicine?
At the Electric Pharmacy, unlocked at player level 43. It needs 99 Pure Quartz, 50 Horn, 50 Bone, and 50 Pal Fluids, and it only runs with a power source.
Is Work Speed worth any points?
No. Base tasks run through your Pals in Palworld, and guides agree the base value is fine as it stands.
