Palworld early tech priority: skip furniture, unlock what gates you

Tech points run short from level 1. Technology points are always short walks through why: the tree costs more than ten times what leveling pays out. So early on, you skip anything that does not block you and unlock the technologies that clear a bottleneck.
Here is the Lv1-15 unlock order from our technology data, sorted by when each one starts to matter.
Unlock these first (Lv2 to 11)
Sorted by how soon each one stops blocking you.
| Level | Technology | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Lv2 | Pal Sphere | You cannot catch a Pal without it. Top priority |
| Lv2 | Palbox | The anchor for your base. Assign Pals to work here |
| Lv5 | Ranch | Breeding, eggs, and Pal ranch products. Sets up the midgame |
| Lv7 | Stone Pit | Gathers stone automatically. No more mining by hand |
| Lv7 | Logging Site | Gathers wood automatically. Building materials stop running dry |
| Lv10 | Primitive Furnace | Turns ore into metal ingots |
| Lv11 | Metal Pickaxe | Lets you mine ore. Pairs with the furnace to run a metal line |
These seven unlocks connect automatic gathering to metal processing. The Stone Pit and Logging Site hand gathering off to Pals, and skipping the return to manual mining saves more early-game time than anything else on this list. The confusing pickup spots for those raw materials sit in our materials guide, Japanese-only for now.
What can wait
Furniture and interior decor under Construction do not move your run forward. Our technology data counts 196 Construction unlocks worth 424 points combined, and furniture and decoration account for most of that.
Starting around Lv5, wooden living room sets, tavern furniture sets, and houseplant sets keep appearing, one after another. They just dress up your base. If combat and gathering matter more right now, leave the whole category alone and put those points into the Stone Pit, Logging Site, and furnace instead.
Signs and carpets sit in the same bucket. No rush there either.
Saddles depend on which Pal you already have
Saddles cut travel time, and unlocking one pays off fastest when you already own the matching Pal.
These four cover your first mounts. Flying mounts arrive much later, so any one of these four fast ground runners carries you through the early game. Our ride speed ranking, still Japanese-only, breaks down rideable Pals and their speeds.
Where ancient points go first
Ancient technology draws from a separate pool, and two unlocks sit within reach early.
The Egg Incubator (Lv10) hatches whatever you breed. Once your ranch starts producing eggs, you will want one. Our breeding basics guide, Japanese-only for now, walks through the full process.
The other is the Grappling Gun (Lv12), which turns climbing cliffs and ledges from a chore into a non-issue. It speeds up exploration enough to be worth grabbing as soon as you have ancient points to spare.
Our technology tree covers the level and cost for all 587 technologies. For who to staff your early base with, see our early base Pals guide, also Japanese-only for now.
FAQ
- What technology should you unlock first in Palworld?
- Pal Sphere at Lv2 comes first. Without it you cannot catch anything. Next is the Ranch at Lv5 for breeding and eggs, then the Stone Pit and Logging Site at Lv7 for automatic gathering, then the Primitive Furnace at Lv10 and Metal Pickaxe at Lv11 to turn ore into metal.
- What should you skip when tech points run short?
- Furniture and interior decor under the Construction category. Tables, chairs, and decoration sets do not move your run forward. Our technology data counts 196 Construction unlocks worth 424 points combined, and cutting that frees points for combat and gathering.
- When do you unlock saddles in Palworld?
- The first saddle, for Rushoar, unlocks at Lv6. Melpaca follows at Lv7. Riding cuts travel time by a wide margin, so grab one early if you already have the matching Pal. Flying mounts come later.
- What should you spend early ancient technology points on?
- The Egg Incubator at Lv10 comes first, needed to hatch anything you breed. Next is the Grappling Gun at Lv12, which makes climbing cliffs far easier. Ancient points sit in a separate pool from regular technology points.
